Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore team up with director Pedro Almodóvar in his new film that won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival.

Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter. Circumstances of life separated the pair, but after years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.

Curator's Note

Based on the novel What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez, The Room Next Door has been adapted to screen by Pedro Almodóvar in his first English language film.

The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival where it received the Golden Lion for Best Film.

Join us in the cinema for this special advance screening prior to the film's general release on 26 December.

- Reece Goodwin, Film & TV Curator.

The colors of The Room Next Door are its secret message, a language of pleasure and beauty that reminds us how great it is to be alive.
