A beguiling and enchanting comedy about graverobbing, lost loves and ancient artifacts.
Set in Tuscany in the 1980s, La Chimera stars a dishevelled Josh O’Conner playing ex-con Arthur, a lovelorn tomb raider who reunites with his grave-robbing gang to plunder the ancient wonders of the Tuscan countryside. Seeking out his lost love’s mother, Arthur finds himself embroiled in the lives of a group of women living in a dilapidated mansion, led by their enigmatic matriarch Flora, played by Isabella Rossellini.
Alice Rohrwacher’s eccentric and critically acclaimed film follows her equally magical Happy As Lazzaro (2018), a film also preoccupied with Italy's ancient past. La Chimera’s Fellini-esque voyage through Italy's ancient antiquities has an air of romanticism and melancholy that captivates and enchants.
Enigmatic, absorbing and so much more alive than any pottery behind glass in a museum, this is an exquisitely crafted, grown-up Indiana Jones steeped in its own distinctive magic.
