Roberta Ciabarra

Film Curator Roberta Ciabarra is a founding member of ACMI’s Film Programs team, established in 2002. She has programmed and curated a wide range of film strands and seasons including thematic seasons Lady Beware: Focus on the Feminine Gothic (with guest co-curator, Adrian Martin), Honey, I’m Home: Visions beyond the white picket fence (for the Melbourne Architecture Annual), Focus On retrospectives dedicated to, among others, Spike Lee, Douglas Sirk, Isabelle Huppert, Gus Van Sant, Claudia Cardinale, Dante Ferretti, Asia and Dario Argento, Robert Altman, Tim Burton, Christian Petzold and Catherine Deneuve, alongside ACMI's late night cult Freaky Fridays, Kids' Flicks and long-running Matinees series.

Prior to joining the State Film Centre of Victoria in 1992, Roberta worked briefly as a publicist for independent film distributor, NewVision Films. Following the State Film Centre’s merger with Film Victoria to briefly become Cinemedia in 1997, Roberta held positions in Cinemedia's Industry Development & Investment, Screen Culture and Documentary units. Roberta contributed Italian language subtitles for overseas festival screenings of Rhys Graham’s 2006 short film, Love This Time, and has participated on Fiction and Documentary Short Film Selection panels for the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). In 2018, she participated on the Jury for the Bvlgari Critics' Choice Award at the 19th Lavazza Italian Film Festival. She knows her Bertolucci from her Bellocchio – and is an ardent fan of both.
