Chris Connell Design is a Melbourne-based architecture and interior design studio known for restrained design and attention to detail. In addition to many residential and commercial projects, the studio has designed some of Melbourne’s favourite dining destinations, including Bar Carolina, Il Bàcaro, Caffé e Cucina, Mr Wolf and Dukes Coffee Roasters.
Drawing aesthetic inspiration from the film PlayTime – French filmmaker Jacques Tati’s 1967 ode to modernism – the striking interiors for the new dining spaces at Hero are a nod the film’s monochromatic greys, whites and blues, with occasional pops of bright colour. Heavily influenced by the functionalism of industrial design of the mid-1960s, the design sees functional brushed stainless steel, perforated wall panelling and terrazzo concrete all featuring, while the gridded ceiling brings a sense of order to the spacious dining area.
