ACMI Education presents

LGBTIQA+ Young Filmmakers Workshop 2024

Learn to create compelling screen stories

When

Mon 25 Nov, Tue 26 Nov & Wed 27 Nov 2024

9:30am – 3:30pm

Are you aged 15–19, identify as LGBTIQA+ and have an interest in film?

Over three fun-filled days, we will provide you with the skills and tools to tell your own screen stories, led by LGBTIQA+ identifying ACMI and industry facilitators in a safe and inclusive environment. Whichever stage you're at in your filmmaking journey, we encourage you to apply. You might be just starting to get interested in writing and filmmaking, or you might be approaching your VCE and are interested in some skills to help you in your Media Studies projects.

The program

Day 1 will explore storytelling techniques to get your ideas happening and to encourage you to find your unique voice as a storyteller. We will cover script writing basics and structure by looking at scripts and scenes from films. In small groups, you will work on a short script ready to be filmed.

Day 2 will be a familiarisation with the camera, learning some filmmaking techniques and working together as a film crew to film the short scripts you developed on day 1.

Day 3 will be all about post-production. You'll get to edit the films you shot on day 2, culminating with a screening to celebrate all your work.

During the workshop, you’ll hear from LGBTIQA+ filmmakers about their experiences and get a chance to watch some short films for inspiration!

The workshop is FREE to attend.
