ACMI welcomes new Board President Janet Matton, and farewells outgoing members

In what continues to be a vital year of change and transformation for ACMI, we are delighted to announce that business leader and digital transformation expert Janet Matton has been appointed as ACMI Board President, as outgoing President Peter Lewinsky steps down after 9 years on the board.

Ms Matton brings a wealth of expertise in complex business management and global operations to the helm of Australia’s national museum of film, TV, videogames and digital culture.

With more than 20 years of senior corporate experience across multiple disciplines including finance, HR, strategy and IT. Ms Matton also has broad international experience having spent 12 years working in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and China.

Ms Matton is currently chair of the Eastern Community Legal Centre, director of Epworth HealthCare, deputy chair of the Better Care Victoria Board and a director of Pitt & Sherry, a national engineering consulting practice. Prior to her current roles she was the vice-president/head of operations for IBM in Australia and New Zealand, overseeing the company’s widespread and robust management systems.

Ms Matton’s passion for women in business and her experience in digital transformation won her the 2010 Victorian Telstra Business Woman of the Year award.

Starting in the role on 1 July 2019, Ms Matton succeeds Peter Lewinsky who has served as president since 2014 and on the board for nine years. Also retiring are long-standing board members Michael Wachtel and Jan Chapman AO.

At the same time we farewell our three longest-serving members – Jan Chapman, Michael Wachtel and our Board President Peter Lewinsky - each of whom have been crucial in the growth and success of ACMI over the past nine years and I thank them all for their generosity, wisdom and commitment. I’d like to particularly acknowledge and thank Peter who in his five years as Board President, has successfully navigated ACMI through a change of Director CEO, a new corporate strategy and was absolutely critical to development and delivery of the $40 million redevelopment we are currently undergoing. It has been a real pleasure to work with the Board under Peter’s leadership – and to have had so much support and energy in developing the strategy for ACMI that is now driving our future.”

ACMI also welcomes managing-director of Blackfella Films and award-winning producer Darren Dale to its board. Dale has worked on acclaimed projects including First Australians, Redfern Now and Deep Water: The Real Story.

With the generous support of the Andrews Labor Government, ACMI’s Federation Square museum is currently undergoing a transformational $40 million renewal and is set to reopen in mid-2020.
