ACMI announces winners of final Screen It competition

ACMI is proud to announce the winners of the 16th and final Screen It competition, Australia’s largest moving image competition for school-aged filmmakers, animators and game makers. 

Winning works were selected from over 300 entries created by more than 1,000 students who responded to the theme “Listen”. This year’s entries had an impressive standard of creativity across the board. Winning films and videogames came from schools and individual students in capital cities and regional communities across Australia. 

Today, students from around Australia attended a dazzling red carpet awards ceremony at the historic Melbourne cinema The Capitol, ACMI’s temporary home while the museum undergoes a $40 million transformation. The awards were led by Gemma “Gem” Driscoll and Angharad “Rad” Yeo, hosts of ABC Me’s Good Game Spawn Point.  

The awards ceremony highlighted the efforts of all the students who took part in Screen It and enabled competition winners to celebrate with peers, family and industry professionals. Prizes for this year’s winners include Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K Cameras, Rode Video Mic+ Pro Microphones, Maxxum professional lenses, PlayStation 4 and Xbox consoles, stop motion animation kits and more.  

A world leader in moving image education, ACMI is committed to growing screen, media and digital literacies across the country through its range of programs, programming and online resources. The renewed ACMI will able to focus on delivering new world-class education experiences for teachers and students – whether that’s expanding regional programs, developing all-new workshops or creating even more free online learning tools. 

The final Screen It competition was judged by a range of experienced industry professionals including Blackmagic Design’s Simon Hollingworth and Mel Atherton; VCA lecturer Paul Fletcher; Kate Cawley Animation lecturer from RMIT; Peter Maggs and Janine Kelly from the Australian Children’s Television Foundation and Gem and Rad from ABC’s Good Game Spawn Point.
